The Remnant: A People of Faith in the End Times (KJV Bible)

Throughout history, God has always preserved a faithful people who uphold His truth, stand firm in obedience, and remain unwavering in their devotion to His commandments. The Bible refers to this group as the remnant, a people who refuse to be swept away by the deceptions and compromises of the world. In these last days, understanding the significance of the remnant as revealed in the Bible is more important than ever.

Who Are the Remnant?

The term remnant appears multiple times in Scripture, often referring to a small, faithful group that remains true to God despite widespread apostasy. The remnant is not merely a people who exist at a certain time in history, but rather a continuing lineage of the faithful—those who cling to God’s unchanging truth even in times of great spiritual darkness.

Biblical Definition of the Remnant

  • Isaiah 1:9 (KJV) – “Except the Lord of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.”

    • This verse reminds us that without God’s preservation of a faithful people, destruction would be inevitable.

  • Revelation 12:17 (KJV) – “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

    • The remnant in the last days is identified by their obedience to God’s commandments and their faith in Jesus Christ.

The Bible makes it clear that the remnant is not defined by numbers but by faithfulness. Though small in comparison to the world, they are mighty in spirit, walking in truth, and standing firm against deception.

Characteristics of the Remnant

The remnant is not just a concept—it is a living, breathing movement of believers committed to walking in the light of God’s Word. Below are the key characteristics that define God’s remnant people.

1. They Keep God’s Commandments

The remnant is known for its obedience to all of God’s commandments, including the seventh-day Sabbath (Exodus 20:8-11). They do not pick and choose which laws to follow but uphold God’s law in its entirety.

  • Revelation 14:12 (KJV) – “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”

    • Keeping God’s commandments is not just about external obedience but a heart that delights in doing His will.

2. They Have the Testimony of Jesus Christ

The remnant does not follow the traditions of men but remains faithful to the pure gospel of Christ. They have the testimony of Jesus, which includes prophecy, truth, and the Spirit of Christ guiding their steps.

  • Revelation 19:10 (KJV) – “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

    • The remnant understands the importance of prophecy and its role in pointing people to Christ’s soon return.

3. They Are Separated from the World

The remnant does not conform to the ways of the world. Instead, they are set apart, living according to God’s righteousness and not the standards of society.

  • Romans 12:2 (KJV) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

    • The remnant walks in holiness, rejecting false doctrines, worldly pleasures, and anything that compromises their faith.

4. They Proclaim the Three Angels’ Messages

The remnant has been given a special mission: to proclaim the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14. These messages call people to worship God as Creator, reject false systems of worship, and prepare for Christ’s return.

  • Revelation 14:6-7 (KJV) – “Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.”

    • The remnant boldly preaches the everlasting gospel, calling all to repentance and obedience.

Encouragement for the Remnant Today

Being part of the remnant is not easy. In fact, Jesus warned that standing for truth in the last days would bring persecution, trials, and challenges (Matthew 24:9-13). However, God has promised to be with His faithful ones until the very end.

1. You Are Not Alone

Though the remnant may seem small, God always preserves a faithful people. Just as Elijah thought he was the last believer left, God revealed that there were 7,000 who had not bowed to Baal (1 Kings 19:18). You are never alone in this journey—God has others who stand with you!

2. God Will Strengthen You

The remnant is not strong because of their own abilities, but because they rely on God’s power. If you feel weak, take heart in the promises of Scripture:

  • Isaiah 41:10 (KJV) “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

3. Victory Is Assured in Christ

Though the world may turn against God’s remnant, victory is already secured in Jesus Christ. The Bible assures us that those who remain faithful will inherit eternal life and be with God forever.

  • Revelation 21:7 (KJV) – “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”

Final Thoughts: Hold Fast to the Truth!

In these final moments of earth’s history, the remnant must stand firm. God is calling His people to remain faithful, to keep His commandments, and to proclaim the truth in love. Though trials may come, our hope is in Jesus Christ, and He has promised to guide His remnant safely home.

So, be encouraged, beloved. Stay strong, keep the faith, and look forward to the soon return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

  • 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV) – “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

May you be faithful and steadfast as you walk this path with God. The remnant may be small, but they are mighty in the Lord! Hold fast, for Jesus is coming soon!
