Introduction
The Word of God makes it clear that faith is not only essential for salvation but also plays a central role in healing. Healing is both a physical and spiritual work of restoration that God offers through His Son, Jesus Christ. James 5:14–15 (KJV) reminds us that prayer, faith, and the anointing of the sick are means by which God’s power is revealed in the lives of His children.
1. Scripture Foundation
“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” — James 5:14–15, KJV
This passage highlights two key promises:
The prayer of faith brings physical and spiritual healing.
God’s mercy extends beyond the body, reaching into the forgiveness of sins.
Faith is the channel through which divine power flows into human weakness.
2. Ellen G. White’s Insight on Faith and Healing
Ellen White explains:
“Faith is the condition upon which God has seen fit to promise pardon to sinners; not that there is any virtue in faith whereby salvation is merited, but because faith can lay hold of the merits of Christ, the remedy provided for sin.” (Steps to Christ, p. 61)
She also counsels that when praying for the sick, we must “present our petitions with earnestness and faith, as if we already knew that God would answer.” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 226)
Her writings emphasize that faith does not manipulate God but trusts Him completely, knowing He heals according to His perfect will.
3. Faith and Healing: More Than the Body
True healing encompasses body, mind, and soul.
Sin often weakens the body; forgiveness brings strength.
Faith opens the door to God’s Spirit, who not only restores health but also renews the heart for obedience.
Healing is not merely about recovering from illness but about restoration into harmony with God.
Faith, Healing, and the Role of Country Living
Faith and healing are not only about prayer in the sickroom but about the daily lifestyle choices that prepare us to receive God’s blessings. Country living plays a vital role in this process. Away from the distractions, noise, and unhealthy influences of city life, the quiet of the country allows the mind to be clear, the body to be strengthened by fresh air, sunlight, pure water, and wholesome food, and the soul to commune more freely with God. Ellen G. White reminds us that “out of the cities is my message” (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 357), because God knew His people would need both physical and spiritual refuge in the last days. This aligns directly with the five keys of survival: true conversion, country living, water, food and resources on your property, and evangelism through assisting others. Faith in God’s healing power is strengthened when we live in harmony with His natural laws. Country living provides the environment where the prayer of faith combines with obedience to God’s health principles, creating a powerful testimony of healing and preparation for the soon coming of Christ.
4. Practical Lessons for Us Today
When sick, seek prayer support from godly leaders and fellow believers.
Believe that Christ is both Healer and Forgiver.
Accept that sometimes God’s healing may come in the form of endurance, strength, or peace, even if the physical body is not fully restored.
Always surrender to God’s higher purpose, trusting that His will is for our eternal good.
5. Encouragement to the Believer
Faith is not a feeling—it is a choice to trust in the unseen power of God. When we cling to His promises, we invite heaven’s healing presence into our lives. Whether God restores instantly, gradually, or spiritually, His word assures us that “the prayer of faith shall save the sick.”
Conclusion
The role of faith in healing is to connect the believer with the limitless power of Christ. Through prayer, surrender, and trust, we allow God’s hand to lift us from weakness into wholeness. Healing may come to the body, but more importantly, it comes to the soul, ensuring forgiveness and eternal life. Faith makes us ready to receive the greatest of all healings—life everlasting in Christ Jesus.
Day 5 Devotional Activity: Practicing Faith in Healing
Morning Reflection – Scripture Reading
Read aloud James 5:14–15 (KJV) three times slowly.
Pause after each reading to let the words settle in your heart.
Reflect: Do I truly believe God can heal me—body, mind, and soul—according to His will?
Prayer of Faith
Heavenly Father, I come before You in faith. Your Word declares that the prayer of faith shall save the sick and that sins shall be forgiven. Today, I place my weakness, my pain, and my sins at the feet of Jesus. Wash me, heal me, and strengthen me, Lord, according to Your will. I trust in Your timing and in Your love. Thank You for hearing me, and thank You for the healing You are already working in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Journaling Prompt
Write in your journal:
One area of your life where you need God’s healing (physical, emotional, or spiritual).
One promise from the Bible that assures you of His healing (e.g., Psalm 103:2–3, Isaiah 53:5, Jeremiah 30:17).
End your entry with the words: “I choose to trust God in this today.”
Act of Faith
Share your testimony of God’s healing power with one person today.
If possible, pray with someone else who is in need of healing.
Evening Meditation
Before bed, whisper:
“Lord, I rest in faith. I know You are working healing in me, even as I sleep.”
Close with Psalm 4:8 (KJV): “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.”
Life Application: Healing is not just about relief from sickness—it is about living each day in surrender to God’s care. By praying, journaling, acting in faith, living in harmony with God’s laws through country living, and meditating on His promises, you open your heart to experience healing in every part of life.
