Are We Crucifying Christ Afresh? A Call to Repentance Before the Seven Last Plagues

It is easy for us to look back into history and wonder how the religious rulers of Christ’s day could reject the very Saviour they professed to be waiting for. They studied the Scriptures, taught the law, understood the prophecies, and anticipated the coming Messiah. Yet, when Christ stood before them, offering repentance, forgiveness, salvation, and truth, many rejected Him. Some even united with the Roman authorities to bring about His crucifixion.

We may ask, How could they have been so blind? How could they crucify the Son of God?

But dearly beloved, are we doing the very same thing today?

Every time we knowingly compromise God's truth, cherish sin, reject His correction, or refuse to repent, we dishonor the very Saviour we profess to love. Hebrews 6:6 warns of those who “crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.”

How often do we preach the Word, teach the Scriptures, evangelize, and profess to stand for present truth, while secretly harboring sins that separate us from God?

Can you imagine proclaiming the Three Angels’ Messages, warning others of the seven last plagues, yet finding yourself among those who receive them?

Revelation 18:4–5 (KJV) declares:

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.”

Consider the solemn reality of that warning. Imagine finding yourself in the time of the plagues, seeking refuge in a broken, unfinished house, with exposed studs, no insulation, and no complete covering. Imagine terrifying insects entering through the openings, biting into your arms and shoulders, while you desperately seek relief. This imagined scene is not a literal biblical description of the plagues, but it reminds us of the dreadful consequences of remaining in rebellion against God.

What a tragedy it would be to have warned others, yet neglected the preparation of our own hearts!

Dearly beloved, the greatest preparation is not where we live, what we store, or what we know. It is whether Christ truly reigns within our hearts.

We must examine our words, actions, motives, and private thoughts. Are we misrepresenting Christ? Are we compromising truth? Are we allowing pride, bitterness, selfishness, or secret sins to remain?

Our daily prayer should be the prayer of David:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24 (KJV)

The call to come out of Babylon is a call to separate from false worship. It is also a solemn call to surrender completely to Christ, forsake sin, and walk in obedience to His Word through His transforming grace.

Let us not be occupied with identifying the sins of others and fail to recognize the sins within ourselves.

A Prayer of Repentance

O heavenly Father, search our hearts today. Reveal every hidden sin, every compromise, and every way in which we have misrepresented Your character. Forgive us, cleanse us, and purify our hearts. Remove pride, selfishness, and every cherished sin. Help us not speak Your truth, but to live it. Let Christ be Lord over our thoughts, words, decisions, and actions. Prepare us to stand faithful in the coming crisis, not through our own righteousness, but through the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.

“Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” — Luke 12:40 (KJV)
